Puppies

.

January 28, 2014

Here’s a slide show showing recent puppies. Note, as you watch the pictures, the intelligence expressed by their eyes. This is a trait of well bred Dobermans.

We now allow you to get a completely natural Doberman, without tail or ears docked. Just let us know your preference at the time you place your reservation. Reservations are $250 and are 100% refundable until you select your puppy. We have had people wait over eight months for one of our puppies so make your reservation soon. Our puppies are spoken for, even before they’re born. Selection will be based on the date of the reservation.

All reservations are 100% refundable, except for undocked puppies, until you have selected your puppy.

Prices

When you purchase a loving and loyal Baptist Ridge Doberman here’s what you receive, all included in the price of your puppy:

  1. An up to date health record of your puppy showing all vet visits from our vet, Ragland and Riley.
  2. A vWD genetic certification of your puppy from Vetgen or Vetnostic.
  3. Every puppy with a full registration will receive a B-locus and D-locus coat color test from Vetnostic, included in your purchase price.
  4. A micro chipped puppy that you can take to your vet and have your contact information stored in in case your puppy ever wanders away. This increases your chances of recovering your puppy substantially! This microchip is already activated for you with the database provider so you have no additional expenses to protect your pup.
  5. Every Baptist Ridge Doberman Pinscher puppy is registered with the American Kennel Club.
  6. A fifteen pound bag of Fromm Gold Holistic Large Breed food, sent to your home or at pick up time of your puppy, and a $5 certificate to use with your first order of Fromm dog food.

  8. One Prairie Dog Giant Deer Antler Dog Chew. Our dogs love these and your pup will too.

AKC Registered Doberman Puppies for Sale

To reserve a Baptist Ridge Doberman puppy , please go to our puppy reservation page to make a deposit or select an installment plan which already includes the reservation fee. Any deposit received, except for undocked puppies, is 100% refundable until you select a puppy. These puppies go quickly, usually even before they are born, so if you’re interested in a Baptist Ridge Doberman we encourage you to get your reservation in early. If you sign up for our notification list we’ll let you know when a breeding takes place. Being placed on the notification list in no way obligates you to select a puppy. Both parents of every litter are on premises at all times for viewing. We are very proud of our stock here at Baptist Ridge Dobermans and welcome visitors to inspect our adults. They are friendly yet do naturally guard the property so call to be sure some one is home.

Health Certificates

Baptist Ridge Dobermans will not sell a puppy without an Official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection from our vet! You are guaranteed that at the time of your purchase you have a healthy and happy puppy. For specifics please see our sales contract. In addition, every puppy from Baptist Ridge Dobermans is DNA tested through Vetgen Veterinary Genetic Services or Vetnostic Labs. This means you will receive, in your puppy package, a certified DNA test. You will know exactly what the genetic disposition of your puppy is in regards to Von Willebrand’s disease. If you are buying a doberman Pinscher puppy it is important to know about Von Willebrand’s disease and whether your puppy and its parents have been tested. If you are purchasing a doberman puppy that has not been tested, or from parents that have not been tested, then you run the risk of your dog having severe medical issues. Please see the chart on our vWD page. According to Vetgen, if you do not know the status of both parents you have a 75% chance of your dog being either a carrier, or worse, affected. We strongly encourage you to avoid breeders who minimize the importance, frequency and heartbreaking impact Von Willebrands Disease has on dobermans. Please read about Von Willebrand’s disease and the risks your puppy might face. No puppy sold by Baptist Ridge Dobermans is in the affected status of Von Willebrand’s disease.

Considerations When Selecting a Doberman

We are a dedicated breeder of beautiful and well socialized dobermans. We say this several times throughout this site. However the breeding of excellent dobermans is only the beginning. Do you know what the largest and most important item in the life of a wonderful and well adjusted doberman is? You! We write here about what some of the considerations of owning a doberman are. However there is a site we have found that is an absolute gem of information. Before you read the remainder of this site please do yourself, and your family, a favor and visit the Everything Doberman Online Community, especially the Develop a Doberman Pinscher Puppy Plan page. These folks cover everything from soup to nuts and don’t gloss over any negatives, like cleaning up after your puppy. There will be puppy messes! You can read about breeders and what makes a good one on this site. You can read about family responsibilities, doberman care, how to buy a puppy, what you can expect to pay, and much more. What we like about this site is, they say the same things we are saying but they go into much more depth. When you’ve read about dobermans please come back and see we are up front and honest about our dogs and the doberman breed. They are not for everyone and we don’t want to sell to everyone. We want our puppies to be happy living with you and we want you to be happy living with our puppies. We take pride and caution when placing our puppies. As a responsible Doberman breeder it is our job to find the best home for our dogs. We are not a puppy mill. We care where our puppies go and how they are doing after they leave. We welcome pictures and emails from the new owners. Things to consider when purchasing any animal are…

  1. Behavior – Do you want a laid back, low energy dog, or an active companion you can interact with? If you want an active companion who will know what you are thinking even before you say the words, a Doberman is for you. Dobermans are often referred to as Velcro dogs. They love and NEED attention. They want to stick by your side.
  2. Size – If you are looking for a small lap dog to stay in the house without much exercise, you do not want a Doberman. Dobermans are high energy dogs. They love working to please and are pleased to work. Work means walking with you, running, playing and just about anything else you want to do, they’ll want to do it with you. Dobermans are large dogs that need room to move. That said they do think they are a lap dog. They are one of the most loving dogs you will ever come across.
  3. Training – Training is important, as it should be with any animal in your home. Training starts the day you bring your Doberman home. If you don’t want your puppy to do something don’t let them do it from day one. Remember you must be the pack leader. You’re the boss. Some people use crate training for house breaking and cool off periods when your Doberman comes in from playing or working. If you want respect from this highly intelligent breed you will have to work for it because Dobermans are problem solvers.

Here at Baptist Ridge Dobermans no puppy will ever be released before 8 weeks of age. A puppy needs to stay with their mother and litter mates for at least that long in order to interact with each other, and their mother, to learn social skills they will need in the future. At 8 weeks they are eating and drinking well on their own. Each puppy will have all necessary shots and worming. Our Doberman puppies get the best of care from birth until they go home with you. Should you find yourself in the position where you cannot keep your puppy purchased from Baptist Ridge Dobermans he/she should never be taken to a pound or a breed rescue organization before you contact Baptist Ridge Dobermans. Though rescue organizations are a great alternative to the pound or shelter we prefer you contact us because we may be able to place the puppy, adolescent or adult to a new loving home.

Our Dobermans go home with tails docked, dew claws removed, shots up to date and dewormed by our vet. After your purchase of your puppy you have the responsibility to take full care of your puppy including all medical care and maintenance. Once your puppy leaves our property Baptist Ridge Dobermans cannot be responsible for the health and well being of your puppy. The buyer will be responsible for taking the puppy to their vet for a full exam within 72 hours of purchase.  If, within 10 days of purchase, you find the puppy in poor health, excluding abuse , miss handling, auto accident etc., the buyer has the right to return the puppy immediately with a Official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection from their vet (NOT A COPY) specifying the problem. A refund for your puppy will be made at that point, minus your $250 deposit. You will be able to select a puppy from a future litter without making an additional deposit. If you decide to keep the puppy and treat the problem, Baptist Ridge Dobermans bears no responsibly for any medical costs or future medical problems. If you do not have a vet check within 72 hours of purchase the buyer assumes all responsibility. Baptist Ridge Dobermans is released of any and all responsibility for the health of your puppy thereafter.

Doberman Puppies will be shown at 4 weeks by appointment only. Viewing and selection of puppies will be based on the order in which deposits are received. If someone wants to view our Doberman puppies, those placing the earliest deposits will have the first viewing opportunity. If a viewing appointment is not required, a puppy can be selected directly from our web pages, again in the order in which deposits are received. This will accommodate those people who need their puppy shipped to them or those who live at a distance from Tennessee. If, upon a viewing appointment, you want to change the choice of your puppy, you will be able to select only from those puppies, if any, not already claimed. A sold notice will be posted on the web page for each puppy as soon as it is chosen. People who have not made deposits, waiting to see the puppies in person, will receive the last appointments.
  1. Pick of the litter – A person will receive pick of the litter choice if they have made the very first deposit on a litter. Selection of puppies is based on the order in which deposits are received for a litter. A refund will be made only if you have placed a deposit before a litter is born and you do not find a puppy you like on the web page or at your scheduled appointment. The person making the first deposit on a litter can select any puppy from the litter on our web page as soon as the pictures are posted. If you require to view the puppies in person you must keep the appointment scheduled for you. If you do not keep this appointment you will lose the first pick opportunity. This is only fair because our Doberman puppies are in high demand. Until you have made your selection, via either web page or an in-person appointment, no puppies will be able to be claimed by anyone else.
  2. People making a deposit on a puppy from the web page can chose after the pick of the litter is complete. There will be no refund given after a puppy is selected from either the web page or an in-person visit.
  3. People not making a deposit have last choice of any remaining Doberman puppies.

Shipping

Baptist Ridge Dobermans provides shipping throughout the US and Canada. We do not offer shipping to Mexico, South America or overseas. Please contact us if you require shipping of your Doberman Pinscher puppy. Rates from the airlines change frequently and we will be glad to quote you a price using the current rates and the airline required. Also, be aware that airlines place severe restrictions on when a puppy can be shipped. For example, a puppy may not be accepted for travel by air when the temperature at the origin or destination will fall below 45 degrees or exceed 85 degrees. This means puppies cannot be shipped by air to northern and southern locations throughout the entire year. Please contact us so we can check on your shipping requirements.

What do you feed your puppies?

Since we have just had a litter we have been asked this question many times. We absolutely recommend Fromm Gold Holistic Large Breed Puppy. We have tried other foods but settled on Fromm because the dogs love it and are doing exceptionally well with it. We fed this to Zelda during her pregnancy and, as you can see, there was not a runt in the litter and their coats are as shiny as I’ve ever seen. It’s important for you to start your pup off right. Fromm costs a little more, but it is well worth it. We have seen some breeders feed their dogs Pedigree or some other cheap dog food. Yes, yes, we’re sure some dogs have lived long lives on Pedigree. Our grandfather lived to be 96 years old too, and smoked every day of his life, but we wouldn’t recommend a daily packs of Camels to insure a long life. A breeder feeding their dogs a cheap food is just another indication, to our minds anyway, that they’re only in it for the money. Anything to save a nickle, the dogs be damned. We suppose a person could live their entire life eating rice and beans too, but we’re not sure how healthy and energetic they would be. Start your dog off right and give them Fromm. If you’d like to compare the dog food you’re feeding to others check out The Dog Food Adviser and see how your food stacks up against others. This is a great site and you can learn quite a bit about the composition of dog foods and what’s best for your dog.

Recommended vaccination/deworming schedule

The following list, obtained from our vet, is a list of diseases and a recommended vaccination/deworming schedule. Click on any of the links to get more detail about any of the diseases. On this list we specify what we will provide your puppy will have received when you purchase a Baptist Ridge Doberman puppy and what you are responsible for:

Definition of Diseases

Canine Parvo Virus – This disease is highly contagious and is spread from dog to dog by direct or indirect contact with their feces.

Distemper – An airborne viral disease of the lung, intestines and brain.

Canine Adenovirus II – Causes respiratory and enteric diseases.

Parainfluenza – A viral disease of the intestines.

Hepatitis – A viral disease of the liver.

Leptospirosis – A bacterial disease of the urinary system.

Corona – A viral disease of the intestines.

Rabies – A viral disease fatal to humans and other animals. It is now thought that the famous author, Edgar Allan Poe, died of rabies.

Bordatella – A bacterial infection (kennel cough).

Vaccinations against canine distemper virus are often combined with vaccinations against canine parvovirus and canine adenovirus (infectious hepatitis). These vaccines are often referred to as DAP vaccines. Ragland and Riley also include leptospirosis and  parainfluenza and call the combination DAPPL. Your vet may do the same or call it something different. Just make sure whatever your vet calls it, your puppy is protected from these diseases.
